Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?
PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, leaving you stuck in a state of heightened alert long after the threat has passed. I work with adults affected by a wide range of traumatic experiences, including combat, sexual assault, childhood abuse, and occupational trauma (for example, trauma experienced by first responders and medical professionals).
What It Can Look Like
- Memories of the event come back on their own — intrusive thoughts and images or nightmares
- You go out of your way to avoid reminders — certain places, people, conversations, or even your own thoughts
- The way you see yourself or the world has shifted since the trauma
- You feel on guard all the time, startle easily, or have trouble relaxing or sleeping
- Guilt, shame, or a sense of emotional numbness that wasn't there before
How I Can Help
I offer several evidence-based treatments for PTSD and we’ll choose the best fit together. Prolonged Exposure helps you gradually approach avoided memories and situations. CPT examines beliefs that developed after the trauma. Written Exposure Therapy is a brief, 5-session approach using structured writing. Regardless of the approach, you are in control, and the work happens at your pace.
