Dr. Brad Sievers, PsyD

My Story

In 2012, I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in economics and political science. I started a career in the corporate world, and over the course of seven years, I held various HR leadership roles for a large company. During this time, I had several experiences that led me to more fully appreciate the importance of mental health, and I eventually decided to pursue a new career as a psychologist.

Having only taken one psychology class during my time at Iowa State, I enrolled at Colorado State University as a 28-year-old undergraduate and got a second bachelor’s degree in psychology. In 2025, I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Baylor University. While at Baylor, I worked in Dr. Thomas Fergus’s Anxiety and OCD lab, researching the role of courage in exposure therapy for anxiety and related disorders. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Iowa City VA Healthcare system, where I worked in the PTSD, General Mental Health, and Geropsychology clinics, and the mental health acute inpatient unit. I’m currently a provisionally licensed psychologist at Willow Grove Therapy Group in Johnston, Iowa, and I am on pace to become fully licensed in the fall of 2026.

My Approach

I primarily utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach that is heavily influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have extensive experience with exposure therapy, which I have used to help clients struggling with OCD, social anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia, specific phobias, and PTSD. I also have experience treating PTSD with Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Written Exposure Therapy (WET). With these treatments, I have helped clients recover from a wide range of traumatic experiences, including childhood physical abuse, childhood sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault, combat trauma, and occupational trauma. I also frequently incorporate mindfulness and self-compassion into my work with clients.
